STECKLE WILL USE TRACTOR RALLY AS

LEVERAGE TO PROMOTE RMP

EXETERPaul Steckle, the Member of Parliament for Huron-Bruce and the Liberal Party of Canada’s Associate Critic for Agriculture, today stated that he will again request an immediate face-to-face meeting with the Minister of Agriculture in an effort to affect the expedient implementation of the producer proposed Risk Management Programme (RMP).  Furthermore, Steckle intends to cite yesterday’s Huron County Tractor Rally as supporting evidence that agriculture is in dire need of the RMP.

Farmers, most particularly grains and oilseed farmers, are victims of massive US subsidies and declining commodity prices.  The tractor rally yesterday is a tangible manifestation of the desperation that exists out there.  In response, and in an effort to provide real assistance to farmers, I have again restated my February 6th request to the Minister of Agriculture for a face-to-face meeting to discuss the implementation of the Risk Management Programme without delay.

Steckle’s initial letter to the Minister is available at www.psteckle.com.
